Hi. Today I’m reviewing Brooklyn Motto by Alex R. Johnson, and I love that cover, but yeah, I show it to people and they’re like, “Hmm?” and I’m just like, yeah, I have to show you this then, because you see really there is, hold on. It’s here. Darn. Okay. You think I’d be more prepared for this, right? No, never. There, you see, Brooklyn Motto is kind of spelled out there. I love that. I love the design and with a lovely inscription, “I hope you enjoy.” Yeah, I did very much, I very much enjoyed this book.

It’s about a private eye in New York City, so right away I’m hooked, cuz I’m from New York originally and well, my experiences with New York are never quite like they’re pictured in many books, but anyway. My feelings are also not very warm about New York sometimes, but I will say I love reading stories that take place in New York for all sorts of reasons, and a private eye in New York is right up my alley.

I love that kind of stuff, so I mean, I see it in the movies all the time too, so. You know, old movies. I love old movies and new movies too, depending. Anyway, what was I talking about? Brooklyn Motto. A private eye in New York who gets involved in a case, which, well, let’s just say he makes a call that comes back to haunt him over and over in so many ways, and I don’t want to say more, I just don’t, because really once you get past the inciting incident, and you’ll know it right away when you see it in this book, it’s like, ah, wow, okay, gee, I never thought about that. What do you do in that situation? What do you do when you happen to be filming something and it’s an illegal act and the illegal act happens to be murder?

Yeah. It’s like that movie, what was that one? Blowup [that’s the one, I think] or Blowout or something. Anyway, I can’t remember now. I’m old. I remember when the movie came out, something about enlarging a photo and yeah, they parodied it in High Anxiety. If you know movies, you know that movie. Great. Mel Brooks. Anyway, there are a lot of movie references in this book, by the way. That’s one thing I just loved about it, a whole lot, so yeah, I mean, this book is kind of like a movie in a sense. Yeah, there is the inciting incident. There are all the obstacles. There’s the big climactic thing in the middle. I can’t remember now. Anyway, whatever it was, I’m sure it was there. There’s the love interest, there’s the, oh, I could go on, but I won’t. I really, really enjoyed this book greatly. It’s a very fun read and compelling. One of those books you don’t want to put down once you gets started.

It’s just so hard. Once I started reading this thing, it was like my eyes just kind of wanted to pull all the words in it once they were so good. There are parts of it that are a bit like this video, that are a bit stream of consciousness, sentences that go on almost for a paragraph sometimes, which surprised me, because it would happen at moments that after many short sentences that were kind of more screenwriter-like and it was just a very interesting experience to read this and fun and I recommend it highly.

That’s it. That’s all I have to say, after so many, four minutes plus change of this ramble that I hope you enjoy the book. I mean, if you like movie references, private eyes, tough cases involving ethical issues and so forth, you will enjoy this book, I think. Take care and be seeing you. Thanks.

You can get the ebook from these retailers.
