Hi. Yes. Today I’m reviewing The Mad Wife by Meagan Church. This is a really good book. It’s absorbing reading once you get into it. I mean, it’s about this woman who is trying to be the perfect housewife. She’s trying to be the perfect 1950s housewife, which is interesting. It made me wonder, okay, when is this taking place? And I thought, well, maybe it doesn’t matter when it’s taking place because maybe this kind of stuff still happens.
Even now, this need to conform to a certain type or model that has been created for women through the media, through various means. And it’s insidious really, when you think about it. I mean, what’s expected of women these days. What’s expected of young people, too. And God, to be a young woman today, I would just, well, I don’t know. I mean, there are lots of wonderful opportunities, but man, the expectations that are built around everything these days.
Anyway, having said that, this quickly got my attention and pulled me in and kept me reading up to the very end. And it is not only a great psychological suspense novel, it is a look at women’s health and how certainly in the past, and to some extent, perhaps even today, women are not taken seriously by doctors, for some reason.
Their complaints are dismissed as psychological or, at one time, the word hysterical was applied to women who responded to things in a certain way that didn’t neatly fit into the norms that were created for them. And the norms created then are different from the norms created now, but the norms are still being created.
Anyway, having said that, I do recommend this book highly and highly recommend it. Everyone should read it if you enjoy psychological suspense and care about women at all. Alright, talk to you later. Be seeing you.
