My Review of ‘Creative Sprint’
By Noah Scalin and Mica Scalin

When I first heard of Creative Sprint, it was through a local group of freelancers who work in various fields. At some point, I joined the online Creative Sprint Challenge, in which I received an emailed prompt every day for a month and created something based on the prompt. Then I’d post a photo of it on social media.

I started off feeling unsure of what I was doing, but after 30 days of improvising creations based on daily prompts, I was amazed that I’d managed to do it. As a result, I took the Creative Sprint Challenge almost every time it was offered after that.

So, when I received a review copy of Creative Sprint: Six 30-Day Challenges to Jumpstart Your Creativity by Noah and Mica Scalin, I was like … “Whoa! Six challenges in one book. That’s … different.”

This is not the kind of book you read at the end of the day. It is the kind of book you keep with you, so you can start your day with the prompt in mind. Some of my favorites include:

Create something that references microscopic organisms.

Use the letters of your name as inspiration today.

Cover this entire page in pencil, then use an eraser to draw or write on it.

That word is “smog”.

Doing these creative exercises made me realize that I had more capacity to create art than I had imagined. As a writer, this book allowed me to exercise new and different creative muscles.

I highly recommend Creative Sprint, both online and as a print book.

Here are the videos of my first Creative Sprint! 🙂
